Dr. Vanessa Tünsmeyer is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Law (Department of Legal Methods) of the University of Groningen. In 2020, she defended her PhD on the topic of repatriating sacred indigenous cultural heritage in Canada and the United States at Maastricht University. She has worked at the law department of Freiburg University, Maastricht University and was a program officer for the funding organization DFG in Bonn, Germany.
Vanessa specializes in indigenous and cultural rights, and cultural heritage law. Additional research interests include law & anthropology, Aboriginal laws and public law more broadly. Within the EVICT project she examines the interconnectivity of cultural rights and the right to housing.
