Special EVICT talk with Masha Medvedeva

Automatically Identifying Eviction Cases and Outcomes Within Case Law of Dutch Courts of First Instance

In her talk, EVICT’s own Masha Medvedeva will talk about expanding datasets for legal research using machine learning. She will discuss her work on collecting eviction-related cases among all cases published by the Dutch judiciary, and identifying their outcomes, i.e. whether the tenant was indeed evicted or not. While the talk will focus specifically on eviction cases, proposed methodologies have a high potential to be applicable for collecting case law in other domains, e.g., bankruptcy, divorce, etc.

About the monthly EVICT talks

On the third Thursday of every other month, we will have a speaker on a topic related to evictions, the right to housing, housing law, the (complex) relation between international law and national law, and/or data science. Each month, we will have a different international speaker (ranging from scholars to practitioners) who will offer fascinating insights into their area of expertise. Check out our events page for all upcoming and past events, which will have links to recordings of the talks.

The talks will be held online unless indicated otherwise. Each of these talks will begin at 4:00 pm and end at 5:00 pm (Central European Time, UTC+01:00).
